Day 31 – The Acorn Spoons

The Acorn Spoons are an early example of the famed transcendentalist movement “nut” spoons used for seances in Vermont and Wisconsin. They were originally made by Nicola Tesla, who used them for grouting his basement bathroom floor tile.

The spoons are best known for their use by musicians. Rachmaninoff’s Symphony #1 was originally intended to be performed using the Acorn Spoons until it was discovered that the lead spoon player was allergic to nuts.
