Day 69 – The Escanaba, Michigan Spoon

Delta County, Michigan was incorporated on this day in 1843. It just so happens that I have a spoon from Delta County’s largest city (and also the county seat), Escanaba, Michigan.

This delicate little silver plated spoon, possibly from the early 1900s, with the city name engraved in the bowl. “Escanaba” is an Ojibwe name meaning “land of the red buck”, while “Michigan” means “car.”

I think. Please don’t quote me on that.
